A joint doctoral degree (also called “joint doctorate” or “cotutelle doctorate”) is a degree awarded by two (or more) different institutions, who share the responsibilities of supervising, coordination and examining a researcher’s work towards a PhD degree.

The University of Alcalá offers the María de Guzmán Grant Programme for Jointly Supervised Doctoral Dissertations For foreign PhD students. These grants cover the cost of in the Residence CRUSA Village, in a double room, while the beneficiary is making a research stay in his or her doctoral programme.
