In accordance with article 11.7 of the Royal Decree 99/2011, which regulates doctoral studies, monitoring and assessment of the doctoral candidates will be conducted annually by the Academic Committee of the doctoral programme.

To do this, the following procedure shall be used:

1. The Tutor / Thesis Supervisor must complete a report (PDF) on his or her doctoral student. If the Supervisor is different from the Tutor or when there are several supervisors, each will write a different report. The report will mainly take into account the training activities performed by the student and the development of the Research Plan, or its draft if not yet approved.

2. This report, together with an updated copy of the student’s Record of Activities Document, should be sent, in good time, to the Coordinator of the Academic Committee.

3. The Academic Committee will assess the work done by doctoral candidates taking into account:

  1. The report (PDF) or reports from the Tutor / Thesis Supervisor.
  2. The student’s Record of Activities Document

4. Once the assessment has been completed, the Academic Committee will fill in the corresponding annual assessment and follow-up reports (PDF) and forward them, together with the report(s) from the Tutor / Thesis Supervisor, to the Doctoral School.

A positive assessment is required in order to continue in the programme.

In the event of a properly grounded negative assessment, the student must be reassessed in the space of six months. To this end, if his or her Research Plan had already been approved, a new Plan will be drawn up.

Should the second consecutive negative assessment be repeated, the student will leave the programme definitively.
